MSEA Children’s Well Being Program

Welcome to the Children's page!

In the Children’s program, creative workers from Mzuri Dance facilitate a range of workshops, activities and performances featuring African drumming, singing, creative dance and Afrobeat at local Primary School's and within the North Richmond families and community.

Participants are primarily members of the African Australian community of the North Richmond housing estate, and this program was developed following collaborations with local families to identify key areas of need.

This is an ongoing process of collaboration where Ayel Akot as a community connections leader is listening to the families and stakeholders and together we are responding to the communities needs.

We Are Colourful - My Dance Jam, a Mzuri Dance program Atherton Gardens, Fitzroy 2021 supported by local and state government funding including Yarra Council Arts Grant and Vic Health.

The Children’s programming aims to strengthen families’ connection and belonging within their community, while gaining skills to manage stress, strengthen social connectedness and improve student school attendance. Through participation in this programming, it is anticipated that children will:

  • Improve their physical health and wellbeing;

  • Build social and cross-cultural skills;

  • Have an avenue to express emotions;

  • Celebrate their cultural diversity; and

  • Create greater connection to their learning environment.
