About
VOAV was established in 2021 by Ayel Akot, Apuot Bol, and Suzie Watts as a way to centralise various programs that we have been delivering within African communities in Richmond and Fitzroy for over ten years. With funding support from the State Government of Victoria through Engage North Richmond, VOAV aims to continue to support and empower new and established families through a range of activities targeting children, parents, and emerging community leaders.
We believe in the empowerment of individuals within African communities in Melbourne through community participation..
Our Mission
Voices of Africa Victoria (VOAV) work with African communities in Melbourne to empower individuals and promote community participation. Our mission is to support both newly-arrived and established African families facing isolation, marginalisation and disadvantage through family engagement, advocacy and activities that increase agency and self-efficacy among African communities in Melbourne.
